The Society for Industrial Archeology (SIA) and the Mining History Association (MHA) invite proposals for individual papers, panel discussions, and poster displays for our upcoming joint conference. All papers and posters will occur on Saturday in as multiple parallel sessions as needed to accommodate accepted papers.

Paper Proposal Deadline Monday January 4, 2027.

We encourage submissions on all aspects of industrial archeology and the history of mining, expanding broadly to industrial heritage, the history of technology, or all their associated industries and communities. Topics addressing social change related to industry, historic industrial structures and bridges, regional industrial or mining history, native and early contact-era industries, industrial museums of all types, and industrial heritage preservation and public outreach are particularly welcome. There are no temporal or geographic limits to presentation topics. All presentations and posters should offer both interpretation and synthesis of data.

Presentation Formats

• Individual Papers: stand-alone 20-minute papers  that will be grouped into sessions by the conference committee.
• Themed Sessions or Panels: Organized sessions comprising multiple papers or a panel discussion with 3–5 discussants. A formal session chair/moderator is strongly encouraged.
• Posters: Poster displays showcasing works-in-progress or completed projects. Posters will be displayed throughout the presentation day, with a dedicated afternoon session for presenter discussions.

Proposal Requirements All proposals must be submitted electronically and the form will ask you to fill out the following information:

• Title & Format: Presentation title and selected format.
• Abstract: A 300–500 word summary outlining the scope, findings, and conclusions . Organized sessions or panels should provide an additional session theme summary of ~150 words.
• Biographical Information: A brief bio (up to 150 words per presenter).
• Contact & A/V Details: Presenter name, affiliation, mailing address, email, telephone number, and any specific audio-visual requirements beyond standard laptop/projector setups.

All presenters are required to register for the conference at the full conference (with tours) or one-day registration rate (Saturday only). Student rates are available as are competitive awards for current students and under-employed recent graduates.
